The Town of Enfield Lowers the Interest Rate on Delinquent Taxes for 90 Days, in Accordance with Governor’s Executive Order 7S.
To assist Enfield taxpayers who have experienced economic hardship during this period, the Town of Enfield has adopted the Low Interest Rate Program specified by the Governor in Executive Orders.
This program, adopted by our Town Council on April 22, 2020, will provide relief to taxpayers and sewer use accounts by lowering the interest rate charged on overdue bills from 1.5% per month (18% per year) to .25% (3% per year) for a period of three months, April 1, 2020 – July 1, 2020. For delinquent tax accounts, interest for April, May and June will be charged at .25% per month if paid within that period. If the account remains delinquent after June 30th, the interest for those months will revert to 1.5% per month. Interest through March 31st will be charged at 1.5%.
For sewer accounts that are delinquent as of April 1st or become delinquent between April 1st and June 30th, interest for April, May and June will be charged at .25% if paid within that period. If the accounts remain delinquent after June 30th, the interest for those months will revert to 1.5% per month. Interest through March 31st will be charged at 1.5%.
For the 2019 Grand List tax bills coming due on July 1, 2020, the interest charged for the three-month period from July 1 through October 1, 2020, will accrue at an annual rate of 3 percent. If you pay during July there would be no interest; on August 4, 2020, the interest would be .25% for July and .25% for August; on September 1, 2020, the interest would be an additional .25%. Beginning October 2, 2020, the interest rate will revert to the statutory annual 18 percent (18% or 1.5% per month) interest rate retroactively (back to July 1, 2020). Any tax bills that remain unpaid on October 2, 2020, will have the statutory interest rate of 18 percent applied for the entire period that bills are past due.
