Reopening to the Public

Town Hall will reopen to the public beginning this Monday, May 3rd. Masks will continue to be required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. 


 

The Tax and Assessors Office has moved to the Enfield Express, located at 800 Enfield Street!


This move is part of the greater building consolidation plan that was implemented in January of 2021. For further details on the plan, please watch the presentation which can be found on the Town Manager's website: https://www.enfield-ct.gov/443/Town-Manager. 


 

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic


On Wednesday, April 28th, the Town of Enfield partnered with the North Central District Health Department to host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Enfield Senior Center. Approximately 125 adults received their COVID-19 vaccination. We are grateful to the health district for collaborating with the Town in this important endeavor.


 

Annex COVID-19 Clinic


The Town has partnered with Johnson Memorial Hospital, a member of Trinity Health of New England, to open a mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the gymnasium of the Enfield Annex, the former Enrico Fermi High School. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (closed for lunch from 11:45 to 12:45 PM). The clinic will be open for limited walk-in availability, as supply allows, through May 28th. Library


In person Rhyme Time for kids ages birth to 2 is back at the Enfield Public Library! Beginning Monday, May 17th at 10:30 AM, Rhyme Time will be held on the front lawn of the library. Music and nursery rhymes ignites all areas of child development and skills including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. We ask that participants bring a blanket to sit on. Masks and social distancing required. If inclement weather, Rhyme Time will be virtually via Facebook live! Our Virtual Storytime contain stories, songs and dancing designed for the audience.

Take & Make Craft: Use the kit provided to make a masterpiece! Kids ages 2-5 can paint by dot animals simply using water and a paint brush and kids ages 6-12 can watercolor by numbers. Kits can be picked up curbside at the Enfield Public Library on Wednesday, May 12th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM or 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM and at the Pearl St. Library from 1 PM to 2 PM. There is no need to register in advance. Supplies are limited. This craft is sponsored by the Enfield Culture and Arts Commission.

Concerts:


The Enfield Culture and Arts Commission is presenting a virtual concert with Paul Bisaccia on Sunday, May 2nd at 2 PM.  Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Brahms and Pops. A concert of beautiful music with something for everyone, just before Mother’s Day. Included will be gorgeous piano music by Brahms, the famous Rachmaninoff “big tune” in his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, plus a moonlit Nocturne of Chopin. Also included will be “Pops” such as a medley of music from West Side Story, Over the Rainbow, Moon River and more. This program is sponsored by ECAC Enfield Culture and Arts Commission. On Wednesday, May 19th at 6:30 PM, Cameron Sutphin will perform on the lawn at the Central Library.  Cameron Sutphin is an Americana singer/guitar player, in 2017 as a solo act, he released his debut Nashville Recorded C.D. Heartbreak Town.  Since its release, the C.D. has been in rotation on the Jukebox at J.R.'s Café in East Windsor Connecticut, as well as several local folk radio stations in Connecticut and Massachusetts. In addition to this, he has appeared on the Blue Plate Special live audience radio program in Knoxville, TN and has had the privilege of performing at The Big E for the past two years. Cameron performs original material and classic country and folk cover songs such as Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Neil Young, and many others (Rain Date May 20 at 6:30 PM). 

 

Social Services


Family Resource Center: The FRC is thrilled to announce that USA Hauling and Recycling will be sponsoring our Learning Through Play Groups for the 2021-2022 school year. This will mark the 8th year that we have been the recipient of this funding which supports these interactive and educational family engagement groups for children ages birth-five and their parents/caregivers. 

 

 

Senior Center

 

Registration for May classes is underway.  The newsletter and the registration form can be found on the Senior Center website or in the cart at the front entrance of the Senior Center.  If you were unable to make the in-person registration, please call to make an appointment and we would be happy to register you.  The Center is currently open Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM. With the loosening of indoor social distancing restrictions on May 19th, we will be providing tables in the Great Room for card and board games at scheduled times.  During the second week of June we will be fully reopened.


Special Events:


Virtual Bingo – Friday, April 30 at 1:30pm.  Prizes sponsored by Stonebrook Village.  Call the Center at 860-763-7425 or email seniorcenter@enfield.org to register and to learn how to pick up your Bingo cards.


Prime Fitness Center:

The Fitness Center will be accepting new members starting May 3rd.  Call Les or Mike in the Fitness Center at 860-272-3554 for more information.

Little Library:


Although the Library inside the Senior Center is temporarily closed, the Little Library outside is always available. There are a variety of books ready to be loaned out at any time. The outdoor library is located by the handicapped accessible parking spots next to the Fitness Center. Stop by any time to browse or take a book. When you are finished, simply return the book.


AARP Tax Aide Program:


The final day of the program was Monday, April 26th.  We would like to thank the many volunteers who helped countless seniors prepare their taxes over the past few months.  At times it was daunting dealing with COVID restrictions and new tax rules.  The participants were very grateful for such a wonderful program.


Recreation


Seasonal Staff Openings: Recreation is accepting job applications for Lifeguards and Assistant Swim Coaches continuously until filled.  Positions are open to applicants 16 years of age and up.  Apply online at www.enfield-ct.gov/hr.

 

The Recreation Division has a variety of in-person, Take it, Make it and virtual programs this Spring.  The April/May newsletter is now online at www.enfield-ct.gov/recreation.  Upcoming programs include:

The Cooped-Up Crafts Cart is out and about this April and May!  Stop by, say hi and pick up a FREE activity or two for your child!  Upcoming dates include…    

  • Saturday, May 1st: 10:30 - 11:30 AM at the Enfield Annex, 124 North Maple Street
  • Wednesday, May 19th: 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the Rotary Playground, 104 Middle Road 

 

Take it, Make it Rock Painting Kits: Contact the Enfield Recreation Division to reserve a “Kindness Rocks!” rock painting craft kit.  Open to Enfield residents, free craft kits are available while supplies last, limit one per household. 

 

JUST ADDED!  Dolphins Swim Team:  This program is for youth ages 5-18 years old as of December 31, 2021. The focus of the program is on improving strokes and times while having fun and being part of a team. Returning Swimmers: Registration begins Friday, April 30 at 8 AM for Enfield residents.  A limited number of spots are available for this program. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you register early to ensure a spot in the program. Participation in previous seasons does not guarantee a spot. New Swimmers to the team must be evaluated before they can register.  Email Dolphins@enfield.org to set up an evaluation appointment.


 “Virtual” Youth Fishing Derby:  This program is open to Enfield youth ages 15 years and younger. To participate, catch a fish in any body of water where fishing is permitted, submit a photo of the participant and their catch via email to bfairman@enfield.org and include the child’s full name, age, phone number and home address. Only one entry will be accepted per participant. All entries will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a fun prize! The Derby will run from April 9 – May 17, 2021 and all entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM on 5/17/21.

 

Camp TONS-O-FUN Summer Care: Summer Care is a great opportunity to meet new friends, develop respect, build self-esteem and participate in activities in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere. Activities include sports and group games, theme weeks, arts and crafts, free play and more! The program is offered for Enfield youth entering grades 1-9 in September 2021 and is held at the Enfield Annex. Offered in one-week sessions from Monday, June 28 through Friday, August 13, 2021, 8 AM – 4 PM.  For more information regarding Summer Care, including fees, visit our website at www.enfield-ct.gov/recreation or contact the Recreation Office at 860.253.6420. Spaces are limited and registration is currently underway. This program is for Enfield residents only.

 

Preschool Martial Arts Clinic: Has your little one shown an interest in martial arts but not sure if it is for them? If so, our FREE, two day clinic is for you! In conjunction with Integrity Martial Arts of Enfield, participants will explore the world of martial arts. This clinic is especially designed for preschoolers and kindergartners. Participants will be introduced to the basics of martial arts and character development topics. Participants must wear a face mask, comfortable clothing and sneakers and bring a water bottle. One parent/guardian is REQUIRED to attend and participate in the program with each participant. Held Saturdays, May 1 & 8, 9:00 – 9:30 AM at Green Manor Park, Taylor Road.  Spaces are limited and open to Enfield residents only.  There is no fee for this program, however, pre-registration is required and is currently underway.
