Regional Public Safety Complex Update

As announced by State Representative Tom Arnone, Enfield is set to receive $12.8 million for the proposed Enfield Regional Public Safety Complex through House Bill 6690. The bond request was co-sponsored by Representative Arnone and State Representative Carol Hall. We would like to thank Governor Lamont for his support and funding of our public safety complex initiative. We would also like to acknowledge the Town Council’s leadership in recently funding $240,000 to purchase 7 acres adjacent to the current Enfield Police Department that make this expansion possible. This complex is a genuine regional approach to a common goal of enhanced police training and professionalism. These actions continue along the proud tradition of Enfield supporting its Police Department and making public safety a number one priority in our community.

Enfield Regional Farmer’s Market

Enfield Police Department

At the June 7th Town Council meeting, the Council passed a resolution hiring five new police officers. Four of these new officers will be Community Police Officers (CPOs) for the Thompsonville substation exclusively. These officers will become embedded in the community and get to know residents and local businesses. This Community Police Officer program will shift the focus of handling random calls in the area to solving community problems, allowing residents and business owners a greater voice in setting local priorities and enhancing the quality of life in the neighborhood. In addition, for the safety of our schools, one of the 5 new officers will become a full time School Resource Officer for John F. Kennedy Middle School for this upcoming Fall 2021. 

The Enfield Police Department has opened a substation at the Enfield Express, located at 800 Enfield Street. The substation will be staffed with staggered hours and conduct community policing from this location. Walk-ins or appointments are not accepted at this location during this time. In case of emergency, please call 911. The main number for inquiries is 763-6400. Stay tuned for future developments and services!

On June 3, 2021, the Enfield Police Department was pleased to swear-in our newest officer, Officer Amanda Sarrasin. Officer Sarrasin attended Holyoke Community College and then Bay Path University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science in 2013.  Officer Sarrasin will commence her formal training at the Connecticut Police Training Academy in Meriden, beginning on June 4, 2021.

Town Clerk

June is dog licensing month! Current dog licenses expire on June 30, 2021. Dog licensing is available starting on June 1, Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM. Renewal and new licenses can be purchased anytime during the month of June by one of the following ways:

• IN PERSON - At the Town Clerk’s Office, Enfield Town Hall 
• DRIVE-THRU - During the month of June only. Enfield Express, 800 Enfield St. 
• DROPBOX - Available all hours, located outside Town Hall (820 Enfield St.) 
• MAIL - Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with 70 cents postage

**CURRENT VACCINATION RECORD MUST BE ON FILE IN ORDER TO LICENSE**

If your dog received a new rabies vaccination or was spayed or neutered during the past license year, please provide that documentation.  All documentation will be returned to you. Recreation

The Recreation Division is gearing up for a host of in-person programming this summer! Information for a variety of camps, clinics, classes and program are now online at www.enfield-ct.gov/recreation. 

Progressive Swim Lessons: Progressive swim lessons for youth ages 5 and older will be held this summer. Swim lessons will be offered in the mornings at the Angelo Lamagna Activity Center pool. Classes are held Monday – Friday in two-week sessions beginning July 6th. The fee is $50 residents / $62.50 non-residents. Resident registration begins Friday, June 11 at 8 AM and non-resident registration begins Friday, June 25 at 8 AM. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required.

Open Swim: Open swim at the Angelo Lamagna Activity Center pool will be offered daily this summer. The pool will be open June 28 – August 20. Hours are Sunday – Saturday, 12 – 5 PM. Daily fees will apply. Enfield residents have the option of purchasing a pool pass for open swim at the Recreation Office during regular office hours. See website for complete information. 

Camp TONS-O-FUN Summer Care: Summer Care is a great opportunity to meet new friends, develop respect, build self-esteem and participate in activities in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere. Activities include sports and group games, theme weeks, arts and crafts, free play and more! The program is offered for Enfield youth entering grades 1-9 in September 2021 and is held at the Enfield Annex. Offered in one-week sessions from Monday, June 28 through Friday, August 13, 8 AM – 4 PM. Spaces are limited and registration is currently underway. This program is for Enfield residents only.

• SKYHAWKS TINY HAWKS MULTI-SPORT CAMP (ages 3 & 4 years old): Monday – Friday, August 2 – 6, 9:00 – 9:45 AM at Hazardville Memorial School. 
• SKYHAWKS MINI HAWKS MULTI-SPORT CAMP (ages 5-7 years old): Monday – Friday, August 2 – 6, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Hazardville Memorial School.
• SKYHAWKS VOLLEYBALL (ages 10-14 years old): Monday – Friday, August 9 – 13, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Hazardville Memorial School.
• BABYSITTER SAFETY COURSE (ages 11-16 years old): Thursday, July 22, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Enfield Annex.
• YOUTH CHESS CLUB (entering grades 4-6): Saturdays, July 10 – August 14, 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Enfield Annex Outdoor Classroom.
• ADULT SELF DEFENSE CLASS (ages 18 and up): Thursday, July 8 , 7:00 – 10:00 PM at the Integrity Martial Arts Studio.

Library

In person Rhyme Time for kids ages birth to 2 is back at the Enfield Public Library! Mondays at 10:30 AM, Rhyme Time is held on the front lawn of the library. Music and nursery rhymes ignites all areas of child development and skills including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. We ask that participants bring a blanket to sit on.  If inclement weather, Rhyme Time will be virtual via Facebook live! On June 28th at 10:00 we will be holding an outdoor Story Time on the lawn.  Bring a blanket, listen to some stories and do some singing and dancing!  Ongoing outdoor Story Times will begin in July.

Summer Reading:

Our Summer Reading kick off will be on June 29^th between 10 AM and 1 PM.  When you stop by to sign up, don’t forget to grab a free ice cream from the ice cream truck that will be there!

June 16 at 6:30 PM. Are We There Yet?: Songs of American Transportation is a lighthearted look at the our motivation to be "on the move" from one place to another, and about the many modes of transportation we've used in getting from there to here. Rick Spencer and Dawn Indermuehle develop and present a series of theme-based music and history programs. They present songs that give cultural insight into interesting times, places and events in American history. Rain Date 6/17 at 6:30 PM

Senior Center 

The Center will be open Monday – Friday, 8-5 for the month of June.  Coffee will be available daily from 9 - 3.

Ice Cream Social: Save the Date – Wednesday, June 30.  Care One is sponsoring an ice cream social.  More details to follow.

Bingo with Lena:  Tuesday night Bingo is coming back on June 22^nd.  Tickets go on sale at 5:30 PM.  Bingo starts promptly at 6:30 PM at which time the doors will be locked.  The Senior Center is following the CDC guidelines on mask protocol.

Social Services

The Enfield Child Development Center is resuming regular hours 6:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday beginning June 14^th, and we are looking forward to resuming a regular summer filled with field trips, on-site experiences, and water play.
